SANTA CRUZ, CA (September 3, 2008) – The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has once again earned a prestigious Golden Ticket Award for Best Seaside Amusement Park. 2008 marks the second year in a row the Boardwalk has won the award.
The Golden Ticket Awards are presented to the “Best of the Best” in the amusement industry based on an international poll conducted by Amusement Today, an amusement industry publication. Surveys were sent to a database of experienced and well-traveled amusement park fans around the world.
With 46% of the vote, the Boardwalk was a clear winner over runners up Blackpool Pleasure Pier in England and Morey’s Piers in New Jersey. Tom Canfield, the Boardwalk’s vice president of operations, accepted the award at Give Kids the World Village, a non-profit resort in Florida for children with life-threatening illnesses.
The Boardwalk's oldest ride, the Carousel, placed a strong second behind Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania for Best Carousel. The Boardwalk's Giant Dipper was rated the top wooden coaster on the West Coast.
