SANTA CRUZ, CA (July 28, 2010) – Following the popularity of The Lost Boys movie event in June, the 1985 hit movie The Goonies will be shown at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on August 4, 2010. The free outdoor movie will be presented on the Santa Cruz Main Beach, in front of the Boardwalk, at 9pm.
Selection of the movie was influenced by some of the Boardwalk’s 70,000 Facebook fans, who were asked to choose between The Goonies, Top Gun, Raiders of the Lost Ark, or The Breakfast Club. The Goonies, starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, and Corey Feldman, won in a landslide. The comedy-adventure is considered a cult classic for kids and teens of the 1980s. The movie celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
“The Lost Boys was such a great event, we wanted to show another outdoor movie this summer. There’s just nothing quite like watching a movie outside on the beach with family and friends,” said promotions manager Karley Pope.
Radio stations Live 105 and KDON are running Goonies contests. Prized include VIP movie seating, Unlimited Ride Boardwalk passes, the newly released “Unauthorized Story of the Goonies” DVD, and a movie snack pack. The contest deadline is June 30th Guests are reminded to bring low-back beach chairs and beach blankets for the outdoor movie on the beach. Boardwalk rides will operate until 11pm.
