SANTA CRUZ, CA (July 1, 2008) – Perfect beach weather, clean air, and family fun are in the forecast for Santa Cruz this 4th of July. A Free Friday Night concert by Rare Earth will kick off the holiday weekend on Friday, July 4 starting at 6:30 and 8:30pm on the Boardwalk’s beach bandstand. Bring your own blanket and low-backed beach chairs for the free beach concert. Boardwalk rides are open from 11am to 11pm July 1 through July 12.
Rare Earth is best known for their huge hits of the 60s and 70s, including “Get Ready,” and “I Just Want to Celebrate.” Rare Earth’s first recording of "Get Ready" was 21 minutes long and took up an entire side of their first album. It sold millions of records and remained on the charts for almost 3 years.

Fireworks are not permitted in Santa Cruz County. Alcohol is not permitted on Santa Cruz City beaches.
