November 2008
Hello Big Kahuna Club!

BOARDWALK NEWS
The Beach Bandstand is coming down for winter and holiday decorations are going up in "Santa’s Kingdom."

The Holiday Lights Train will soon roll into the Boardwalk! If you haven’t seen the decked out train, it's a very pretty sight and a fun holiday outing for families.

Boardwalk employees were recently treated to a sneak preview of the beautiful new Sea Swings ride. Whatever your age, you'll feel like a kid as you swing out high over the beach, with your legs dangling and Monterey Bay glistening in front of you. Two thumbs up! Sea Swings officially opens in Spring 09, but we're opening the ride at unscheduled times during upcoming weekends for some lucky visitors.

(Did anybody catch a ride last Sunday?)

Ruth Band Organ The Carousel's original Ruth band organ just returned from Ohio where it received a refurbishment and an amazing new façade. The Ruth should be tuned up and playing in time for the Clam Chowder Festival in February.

Speaking of Clam Chowder, if you love to cook and have a great chowder recipe, it's time to register for the 28th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook Off & Festival, a big fundraiser for Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation held every year at the Boardwalk.

Enter by January 23, 2009 and receive two All-Day Unlimited Ride passes to the Boardwalk and two official Clam Chowder Festival tee-shirts. Click for more info and Entry Form

The Clam Chowder Festival is February 21, 2009.

Giant Dipper Lights Did you know?

After 20 years, the Giant Dipper's tracer lights were recently reversed to run in a forward direction.

Serious roller coaster fans consider "forward" the proper direction for coaster lights!
