| February 2009 Hello Big Kahuna Club! The Boardwalk is buzzing as all departments prepare for the rapidly approaching 2009 season. Starting February 7, rides are once again open for Full Operation on weekends and holidays.  The Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook Off and Festival returns to the Boardwalk on February 21 with a record number of teams - 78! Check out the official Clam Chowder theme song and download a free ringtone from the event's webpage.On your next visit be sure to stop by the carousel to admire the Ruth band organ. After a major restoration it has a beautiful new façade and sounds incredible! The Ruth organ has played alongside the Carousel at the Boardwalk since 1911 and it is still going strong. More information about the antique Ruth and Wurlitzer organs will be available this spring.  See the view from the roof of the Cocoanut Grove on KSBW's weather cam. The Northern California chapter of ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) is visiting the Boardwalk later this month. The fun-loving organization is dedicated to appreciating and preserving roller coasters. ACE members are all big fans of the Giant Dipper, which turns 85 this year. |

FEBRUARY SCHEDULE (Weather permitting) Rides are open 11am to 6pm for Full Operation every Saturday and Sunday in February, plus President's Day, Monday, February 16. To confirm which rides are open, please call 831-423-5590 the day of your visit. Neptune's Kingdom, Casino Arcade and Boardwalk Bowl are open every day. The Boardwalk Bowl is open every day at 9am.  |

Chocolate Festival Sunday, February 8, from 2-5pm. Need I say more? Don't miss the 2nd Annual Chocolate Festival at the Cocoanut Grove. Sample fine chocolates from 30 different vendors. Enjoy live jazz and bid on Silent Auction items. Chocolate confections will be on sale, just in time for Valentine's Day. Proceeds benefit scholarships for re-entry students at UC Santa Cruz. Enjoy chocolate without the guilt - it's for a good cause! Buy tasting tickets ($5 - $20) in advance and get a $5 parking coupon for the Boardwalk's parking lot. | Lance Armstrong and the TOUR of CALIFORNIA The largest bike race in the country, Amgen's "Tour of California" is coming through Santa Cruz on President's Day, Monday, February 16, 2009. Watch for pro star Lance Armstrong as he makes his exciting return to the sport. The race is coming down Highway 1 from San Francisco and our stage of race ends in downtown Santa Cruz. It is not expected to impact traffic around the Boardwalk or Highway 17. SANTA CRUZ CLAM CHOWDER COOK OFF & FESTIVAL February 21, 2009 The 28th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Festival is bigger and better than ever this year with a record number of teams set to compete. Mark your calendars for February 21, 2009 and join us (rain or shine!) to check out the entertaining contestants and sample your favorites. Admission is free; tasting kits are $8 for 5 samples.
